Questions
What pouring temperature do you recommend?+
Temperature is critical. We recommend pouring between 176–194°F (80–90°C). Wax that's too cool will start solidifying on the mold walls before the pour is complete, leaving surface defects and uneven texture. Wax that's too hot causes small bubbles across the candle surface. Always follow the temperature guidelines on your specific wax.
What wax types work best?+
Paraffin, beeswax, and paraffin/soy blends work best for taper candles. Soy wax can work, but only harder soy blends. Soft soy wax doesn't hold its shape and may collapse during burning.
Do I need mold release spray?+
No, our molds are designed for clean release without any spray.
How do I thread the wick?+
Use a large-eye needle, a wicking needle, or an awl, all work great. Large-eye needles are available on Amazon and most craft marketplaces.
Should I preheat the mold?+
Not required at room temperature. However, if your studio is cold, we recommend warming any mold with a heat gun before pouring, this improves surface smoothness and reduces bubbles.
Do the plastic shell pieces need to be clean?+
Yes, always. The plastic shell pieces must be clean before assembly so they make tight, even contact with the silicone. Any residue between them can prevent a proper fit and affect the final candle.
How do I clean the mold between color pours?+
For our taper molds specifically, the mold splits into two halves, giving you full access to every surface. Wash both halves with warm water and gentle dish soap, avoid harsh abrasives. Wear gloves with hot water. Other mold types clean with a standard rinse and dry.
